WordPress Marketing Website Statement of Work Template
A website SOW that caps templates, pages and plugins, separates content entry from development, and defines browser support, so a marketing site launch does not become a year of small edits.

Ambiguity fix
Agency will build the website.
Agency will build 8 templates and 16 blocks, and populate up to 20 pages with client-supplied final content.
Best for
Web agencies building a custom WordPress theme with the block editor for a B2B or professional services marketing team.
Marketing sites are where the "quick favor" lives. One more landing page, one more form, one more plugin, and the margin is gone before launch. The fix is to count things: templates, pages built by the agency, forms, integrations and supported browsers. This template also keeps content population and copywriting outside the build fee, because those two tasks expand with every stakeholder who reads a draft.
Copy any clause block below into your own SOW. Numbers, appendix names and tools are placeholders drawn from a typical engagement, so replace them with the counts from your proposal. Every clause is written to be read by a client, not used against one.
Deliverables
Count everything. A deliverable a client cannot count is a deliverable a client can expand.
- 2.1A custom WordPress block theme with 8 page templates listed in Schedule A and up to 16 custom Gutenberg blocks.
- 2.2Agency population of up to 20 pages using client-supplied final copy and images. Remaining pages are populated by the client using the trained editor workflow.
- 2.3Three HubSpot forms embedded and styled (contact, newsletter, gated asset), with submissions routed to the client's HubSpot portal.
- 2.4Configuration of the plugins listed in Schedule B: SEO, caching, security, redirects and forms.
- 2.5Technical SEO setup: XML sitemap, meta fields, Open Graph tags and 301 redirects for up to 150 legacy URLs.
- 2.6Deployment to the client's managed WordPress host with staging and production environments.
- 2.7A 60-minute editor training session and a written editing guide.
Exclusions (out of scope)
Name what the engagement does not include. These are the lines your PMs will cite most often.
- 3.1Copywriting, content strategy, photography and illustration.
- 3.2Population of pages beyond the first 20.
- 3.3Multilingual sites, membership areas, e-commerce and custom post type archives not listed in Schedule A.
- 3.4Integrations other than HubSpot forms, such as CRM sync, ATS feeds or event platforms.
- 3.5Hosting, domain, premium plugin licenses and email delivery services.
- 3.6Ongoing content updates and plugin updates after the 30-day warranty period.
Revision limits
Designs include two consolidated revision rounds per template on desktop and mobile. The staged build includes one consolidated round of visual fixes before launch. Content changes after population are the client's to make in the editor.
Acceptance criteria
Acceptance needs a measurable test and a window. Without both, delivery never formally ends.
- 5.1Each template renders correctly in the latest two versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, and on iOS Safari and Android Chrome.
- 5.2Lighthouse performance score of 85 or higher on mobile for the home page and one representative inner page, measured on staging with final images.
- 5.3All forms submit to HubSpot and trigger the agreed notification emails.
- 5.4The client has five business days after staging handoff to report defects. Launch counts as acceptance.
Client assumptions & dependencies
Tie each dependency to a date so a late input has a known effect on the schedule.
- 6.1Final, approved copy and images for agency-populated pages arrive before the population phase starts.
- 6.2The client provides hosting access and DNS changes within two business days of request.
- 6.3One marketing lead consolidates stakeholder feedback.
- 6.4Brand guidelines exist and are not being changed during the project.
Change control
A change is any new template, block, form, integration, plugin, language or page population beyond the cap, and any change to an approved design. The agency replies with a change order within two business days stating the work, hours, cost and effect on the launch date. Small changes under 2 hours may be batched into one monthly change order with the client's agreement.
These clauses are drafting guidance written from agency delivery practice. They are not legal advice. Agencies should have final MSAs and SOWs reviewed by counsel, especially for liability, IP, payment and termination terms, which this template does not cover.
Ambiguity check
The phrases that turn into free work, and what to write instead.
These are the vague lines we see most often in software development SOWs. Each one sounds reasonable at signature and becomes a dispute three months later.
Before
Agency will build the website.
Safer rewrite
Agency will build 8 templates and 16 blocks, and populate up to 20 pages with client-supplied final content.
Why it matters: "The website" grows with every page the client imagines. Templates and page counts do not.
How to adapt it
7 steps from template to signed SOW.
A template saves drafting time. The protection comes from replacing every placeholder with the real counts, names and dates from your engagement.
- 1
Read the WordPress Marketing Site SOW end to end and mark every number, appendix and named tool that does not match your engagement.
- 2
Turn the sitemap into a template list and count which pages share a template.
- 3
Decide which pages you populate and which the client populates, and train for the rest.
- 4
List every plugin by name. Each one is a future support ticket.
- 5
Put the content due date in the timeline with an explicit day-for-day slip rule.
- 6
Run the ambiguity check: search your draft for words like all, any, ongoing, as needed, unlimited and timely, and replace each one with a count, a list or a date.
- 7
Have your counsel review the final MSA and SOW before signature, then load the signed SOW into TWINJAM so every request is checked against it.
